He comes from the Clarke, Jean and Voltaire families — a private household with a long record of education, enterprise and public service. He is the son of Dr. Loriane Clarke, an entrepreneur, psychologist and doctorate-holding professional. Ashton is direct about what that background means to him: it gave him opportunity, not superiority, and he places himself at the same level as every other person he meets.
